First step down the yellow brick road.

October 31, 2013

On Friday, November 1st at 6:30 am, I made my way to Pennington Biomedical Research Center.  It was dark as I arrived.

I signed in and made my way to the waiting room.  At 7:07 (never has a medical facility been so timely) I made my way to one of the back screening rooms.  The next four and a half hours consisted of being weighed (314.8 lbs, it looked better in kg.), measure, physical exams from head to toe, mental evaluations, lab work, (pee and blood), verbal question, after verbal question, and a walk from one side of a hall way to the other (10 laps around the cones).

I was sent home with 5 boxes of liquid diet (2-chocolate, 1-vanilla, 1-strawberry, and 1-potato soup) that's a total of two weeks, the exact amount of time until my next appointment (EXPLICIT instructions).  DO NOT start the diet before I am contacted by PBRC.  DO NOT consume more or less than 5 packets a day.  And I MUST keep a food journal of every thing I put in my mouth.  I expect to get the call on Tuesday or Wednesday.  Almost there, new life.

My "food bachelorette" weekend.  It's been fun.  I've had my snowball, almost all the things I love.  The fridge is almost empty.  Some water, a few condiments, nothing that would break my heart to have to dump out.  I am ready!  I would have love to start on Friday.  But, I've enjoyed my time and now I'm ready to start working on the new me.

It was bright and sunny as I left with my hospital bag filled with 5 boxes of neuvo nutrition.

It's funny, I'm already see a few events that are going to disrupt my flow, and I will have to figure out how to get around those obstacles.  On November 16th I have a writer's luncheon to attend.  That sucks.  I will have many brick walls thrown in my way over the next few months--no, for the rest of my life.  I'm still going to the luncheon and I'll make sure I take my shakes with me.

One day at a time...was never more profound as right now.
